- Born in 1933.
- Operated the family farm while attending high school.
- Married to wife Helen since 1957.
- Chinese Presbyterian Church choir member since 1950.
- Lifetime member of Toronto Autosport Club (nickname "Mad Ling").
- Drove a 1940 Packard 110 with Helen from Ottawa to Mexico City in "The Great Race" (1995).
- Founder of the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA).
